My name is Siobhan Owens and I started working as a volunteer at the D.S.P.C.A clinic in Ballymun in 1989. From there I acquired a Colliecross dog from Dog's Aid and started obedience training. I enjoyed the training so much I decided to enter obedience competitions.
In 1994 I left the clinic and started my own family. Although I had to step back from the dog training for a while, having a family gave me another insight into owning a family dog. The problems that can develop, such as stealing food from the baby, eating up the kids good runners and toys etc.
In 2006 whilst still keeping in touch with my friends at the clinic and with Maggie from Dog's Aid three things happened:
1. I enrolled on a Pet Psychology course
2. I acquired a Rottweiler puppy
3. And I completed a 'start your own business' course and that's when the fun started!!
Since completion of the course's and whilst enjoying and training my Rottweiler, I have taken on some clients. I'm slowly building my business and making a lot of new friends of the two and four legged kind.
I also foster and help find homes for pups that have been handed into Maggie of Dogs Aid. I also take in older dogs and give them some training before they are rehomed. I regularly visit St. Finan's Primary School to show the younger children my pets (sometimes unusual animals that have been rescued by Dogs Aid). For the older children I give talks on general pet care and pet ownership.
